Layer forging<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>At the beginning, three steel plates are prepared \u2013 with alternating layers<br><strong>high-carbon<\/strong> (harder, sharper) and<br><strong>low-carbon<\/strong> (tougher, more durable).<\/p>\n<h3>2. Welding and forging<\/h3>\n<p>The assembly is heated to <strong>1 200\u20131 300 \u00b0C<\/strong>, then welded and forged with a press or hammer<br>into a single homogeneous block.<\/p>\n<h3>3. Folding the layers<\/h3>\n<p>The block is cut, folded again, reheated, and forged back together. This process creates multiple layers:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>after the 1st folding: 6 layers<\/li>\n<li>after the 2nd folding: 12 layers<\/li>\n<li>after the 3rd folding: 24 layers<\/li>\n<li>after the 4th folding: 48 layers<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div>&nbsp;<\/div>\n<p>If it is necessary to achieve <strong>67 layers<\/strong>, the blacksmith adds additional steel plates at a certain stage and continues folding.<br>v p\u0159ekl\u00e1d\u00e1n\u00ed.<\/p>\n<h3>4. Shaping the blade<\/h3>\n<p>The finished multilayer block (<em>billet<\/em>) is reheated, forged into a flat bar, and<br>then forged or cut into the shape of a knife \u2013 either by hand using a template or by machine.<\/p>\n<h3>5. Hardening and tempering<\/h3>\n<p>The blade is heated to approximately <strong>800 \u00b0C<\/strong> and rapidly cooled in a special oil bath (hardening \u2013 to increase hardness).<br>(<em>hardening \u2013 to increase hardness<\/em>).<\/p>\n<p>It is then heated to <strong>150\u2013600 \u00b0C<\/strong> (<em>tempering \u2013 to reduce brittleness and increase flexibility.<\/em>).<\/p>\n<h3>6. Etching the pattern<\/h3>\n<p>The blade surface is etched with acid, which highlights the contrasting layers.
